So I am on Linux.

I need a solution for remote desktop"ing" onto my Windows servers.

I don't want to TeamViewer as it is slow.

Are there a way to do it like the original Windows remote?

You could try LogMeIn Free or use some kind of VNC solution.

Well, you'll have to make sacrifices, unfortunately, if you are aiming for compatibility with non-Windows systems.

When it comes to connecting via remote desktop from a Linux PC to a Windows PC there are only three viable alternatives that are free:

TeamViewer
Free for personal use by TeamViewer GmbH for the following platforms: Mac, Windows, Linux, Online, Android, iPhone, iPad
http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

TightVNC
Open Source by TightVNC for the following platforms: Windows, Linux
http://www.tightvnc.com/

RealVNC
Free with limited functionality by RealVNC Limited for the following platforms: Windows, Linux
http://www.realvnc.com/

This means both of the Windows and Linux PCs have to the preferred program installed on each PC so that the remote can connect to the host seamlessly. From my experience I think that TeamViewer would be the best choice.

Well people! I can not understand why there would be no RDP-client for Linux??

Imho - One of the best clients is rdesktop, the Linux client of my choice :-)

Other choices could be VNC, i believe one of the Linux clients is Tiger VNC , and it exists as both server and client.

I used to always use Gnome-RDP via lan. Worked fine for my win2k server machine.

There is one that I do know of from the Ubuntu that is available. Its the terminal server client that you can easily use for remote desktop over to a server I have done it plenty of times over here. But you have to make sure that on the server side that you are allowing it to be accessed remotely on it. Under system properties there you can set up the remote desktop on it available.

With those two you can do it that way from your linux box over to your windows servers try it out its a good thing for it.
