I am going to be getting a domain this weekend. So I will be following this post.

I registered my first domain name in 1997. Way back then, there was only one place you could register a domain name -- Network Solutions (they had a monopoly, of sorts, on the service.

These days, all my domain name registrations and renewals are done at GoDaddy.com -- great prices, frequent special sales/offers, no issues.

I have to agree it's got to be GoDaddy.com all the way. As mentioned they have great prices and there is always a coupon code or special you can take advantage of. You can use Chris's coupon codes too and help the community.

I've been using GoDaddy for the last 5 years and have had no problems with them at all.

In the past I've used Dot5Hosting and Namesco. Although these were not the cheapest on the market, they were great providers. I'll probably use either CrazyDomains or GoDaddy on my next web venture

I usually go with 1and1. They seem pretty helpful.

I have never only bought a domain but when buying a domain and web hosting their web hosting sucks. You cannot do anything using the web builder and if you want to upload your own personally built site you are not allowed to. Now, a client of mine signed up for this site and had someone else build it with their web builder and he took off without finishing it. I am left with a half built site that sucks and it is too slow to actually edit the site using their web builder. And I cannot get the domain from 1 and 1 to use with another host. I would avoid them if possible.
