Can Bluray discs be played on standard DVD players?

I was about to buy tron on dvd and thought why not but it on bluray? By doing this I would be able to play in High definition right without an official bluray player? If I do Get it on bluray should i just get it because It is high def and will last longer than a normal dvd? Note: I dont have a bluray player :(

6	No, the reason they made Bluray players is so that they can play Bluray discs. You will need to get either a Bluray player or a PS3 to play Bluray movies. Bluray players can play standard DVDs but not the other way around. answered May 13 '11 at 17:05 TheTechDude 17.0k●40●94●300

The Tron Legacy bluray should come with the DVD version of the film, unless you are buying the original Tron on Bluray. Short answer: no

The bluray disc has what 2-3 times more storage capacity? somewhere in there anyway at least some Bluray players if not all are DVD backwards compatible
