Whats with the stuff about Microsoft making a 128-bit computer and Operating System Windows 8 & Windows 9(Apparently they plan on making Windows 8 & 9 to be compatible for 128-bit computers.I don'T know what this is about I just read it somewhere and want to confirm.). Would you even want that yet? Whats your oppinion on this?

If you wanna read what I read(I think this is what I read...it was awhile back...:P) here's the link.:)

Wow, I like how you have no idea what you're talking about.

How don't I know what I'm talking about...I read this somewhere (I forget where) and I wanted to see if other people actually heard of this to confirm if this was true. I highly doubted it and I just wanted to see what other people would even think about it. I myself don't have much of an opinion on this I just wanted to see what others would think about having such a unnecessary thing. Maybe of course it would be a good thing in the future...but not so much right now. And of course I made typos everyone does that once in a awhile....especially if your tired. If you don't understand my question or misunderstood it then that's fine. I just find it unnecessary to reply with negative comments. Not everyone is an expert in English Vocabulary.

A 128-bit processor would result in an insanely expensive computer, as pretty much everything would have to be custom built unless they came up with some wacky way to include existing technology.

A 128-bit architecture would be capable of using as much RAM as there is data on earth, estimated to be about 2^70 bytes, or 1.2 zettabytes.

There's probably not a practical purpose to a 128-bit architecture at this time.

I don't have a lot of knowledge on different OS's as far as the bits are concerned. I really like that I can have 4GB of ram with 64 rather than just 3.5GB. This is the biggest reason I have 64-bit. I'm getting a new server soon with 8GB, but I'm not sure why 128-bit will be that much better.

128 bit would be insane. If 64 bit is incompatible with 16 bit, wouldn't 128bit be incompatible with 32 bit? That would limit the amount of programs so much that Windows would have less programs than Linux. Then again I may be wrong and 128 bit may be compatible with 32 bit, although I would rather have a 32 bit OS in the first place because most programs are Win32 and 32 bit is compatible with 16 bit and DOS programs.

strictly speaking a 32 bit program is incompatable with 64 bit and vise versa... we can only do this because we emulate it.

128 bit machine would allow for 2^128 (18,446,744,073,709,551,616) machine words which is 16 bytes per word. so (18,446,744,073,709,551,616*16 = 295,147,905,179,352,825,856 bytes.

we do not have a need for them yet, but who knows what the future holds.

They need to skip 128 bit and just go with 256 bit, it will allow for computers with the ability to address enough memory to handle the bloat of the upcoming windows 10 and 11 :)

and hopefully by that time there will be a major breakthrough in RAM technology, and motherboards will be redesigned in a way where they are either extended further back or the area behind the PCI-e slots are simply densely packed DIMM slots, and on the bottom of motherboard, it will say something like "Windows 10 ready"
