If water gets spilled all over my laptop what should i do? |
Mop it up and be careful, it could be broken, I'd let a professional do testing for you if I were you and make sure not to spill water on it, DO NOT TEST IT YOURSELF... IT COULD BE DANGEROUS!!! in other words: NO turning it on, NO plugging it in and give it to a professional repairman to test... |
Turn it off, for one. If it's like an entire glass of water and the computer wasn't closed, then the damage is already done. Hopefully you get lucky. |
Take out the battery and unplug it! Then take a vacuum and put it up to all the ports and vents to try and remove as much moisture as you can. Then put it in rice or silica beads for a few days. |
Turn it off, open it up and put a fan on it. let it dry at least two days before putting it back together and seeing if anything is wrong. It worked for me on more then on occasion. |

Its a little lat for me to answer this- but stash it for a try if the situation ever presents itself again. DO NOT BOOT THE MACHINE. Remove the keyboard and battery, cd-rom and any other removable components- in effect, strip it down. Take a ShopVac and vac all the water from the machine possible and keep the vac in place for a couple of min after any visible liquid has vac'ed out. Now things get interesting. Go to the drug store a get a small bottle or box of activated charcoal. Lay back the screen so you have a completely flat surface. Take a large handkerchief or a piece of a linen/cotton bed sheet and cover the entire area because the charcoal can get messy, but it’s the best desiccant to use in this sort thing. Spread the charcoal so that it covers the system board and move it to a well ventilated and dry place where it will not be disturbed, then put another piece of cloth over the charcoal. Several days later- four or five - break this down the same way you assembled it. Put a small fan on it for a couple of hours. Reassemble carefully. Pray to the Gods, and boot. |

It happened to a friend at my college, in the group study room, he got a good amound of coffee on his laptop, lucky for me, I never leave home with out a few essential tools, so I pulled out the battery and took the laptop apart to clean it. When ever you get liquid on a laptop, pull the battery out as fast as possible, then take the laptop apart and clean everything and make sure everything is dry before putting it back together. taking it apart completely (no need to take the screen apart unless it got wet), can allow you to clean and dry the laptop and have it back up and running within a few hours (generally around 2 hours) |

You see, I've spilled nearly a whole mug of tea on my old laptop before - I turned it off, unplugged it, put it by the radiator, then in the airing cupboard. I turned it on again (after it was dried out) and the only damage that was done - was that the keyboard hardly worked. Everything else was fine. |

I turn the laptop immediately and keep it in a warm place till it's dry from water. That's may take long time. |
