Can the optimal resolution of a monitor be changed?

For example, a 22" monitor at 1920x1080, can this then be upped to 2560x1440?

Thanks.

No, there are only a certain number of pixels in a LCD monitor. The one you have exampled here there are 2,073,600 pixels you cannot change that to 3,686,400 pixels.

There is a maximum amount of resolution on a LCD screen and cannot be exceeded without problem. Though there is CRT's but they produce weird sounds and distorts when exceeded its max resolution.

You can run a monitor beyond the recommended resolution but the image would be distorted and it could cause permanent damage to the monitor and your graphics card.

It is very possible. However I don't recommend it as it can do permanent damage to your graphics card and to your monitor.

Also images won't look anywhere near as good as they would on a monitor with That resolution and it could possibly distort the image. Plus I used to have a friend who did it and he got a ton of dead pixels.
