I'm running an ATI Radeon HD5570, and I am wondering whether it will support the 2560x1440 resolution of a Dell U2711? |

So yes, it should be. |

I'll answer with a question. Why do you have enough budget for an incredibly nice screen but not a card to drive it well? 3
Let me say two things, one, it's none of your business about my budgets, and if it's bothering you that much, my computer is fairly old, but I don't need to upgrade, but I want a larger resolution. Is that allowed or shall I ask for your permission next time? Who are you saying is a 13 year old? Clearly, you and I. I'm with Orange on this one. It's none of our business as to what his financial position is. I'm sure he is capable of prioritising. If you're going to get involved, make a suggestion, not a direct inquiry into his personal business. Rate this down if you want, but Illusion's question made sense... You would probably want to upgrade the whole thing before getting a giant monitor. It doesn't matter whether it's my business or not. He's asked a question. From that question I can assume that he's going to buy a great new monitor and pair it with a less than stellar system. Since I think that's a piss-poor idea I thought I'd weigh in on the subject. 1
I don't want to rate it down, however, it is not your place to question another's financial situation in the way that you did. He was asking for friendly advice on whether something would run, as a way to double check. It might be the case that he uses his set up for stock exchange work, which won't really need any beastly graphics, just a decent amount of RAM, or for music production, which requires very little on the visual side, but a decent resolution. People have reasons for doing things in the way they want, and in this case, he wants to do it his way, and not have you questioning his motives. In the words of You Me at Six; 'You can make your own decisions; you can make your own mistakes.' Let him decide what he wants to do with his money, and if he happens to have issues with the end product, it's hardly going to end the world. At most he will have to put up with slow graphics, but that will not happen unless he is attempting to play Crysis 2 on extreme. I powered a resolution of 3840x1080 on a lesser card for nearly six months with now issues. Another thing you might want to consider is another question of his, where he asks about the specification of a new build he is looking into, so it appears to already be the case that he is looking into new hardware as well. Maybe that will show you to do some research prior to running in on the offensive, questioning another's motives and financial situations. Thank you for your support Tim, at least some people can see from my point ov view. No problem :) 2
I have to go with Red on this one. Take me for example. I have a complex mix of computers in this household, and when someone came in here with a couple HD tvs, the first thing we did was hook one up to a positively antique computer that lacked a monitor. No budget room for upgrading the video card to work better with the TV, but it works to a degree. The guy asked a question and all you do is say "spend more money on a video card"? Tough crowd.
