I am looking to buy a new camera to use in my videos, which have better focus and basically have better quality video. The two I am looking at is the DSLR canon t2i or a Sony handycam, as you see these are two way different cameras, what do you suggest I get? I will be using Sony Vegas 10 HD Platinum to edit these videos.

With DSLR and Camcorders, there are some drawbacks. Here is a video explaining DSLR drawbacks and pros http://revision3.com/filmriot/dslr/dslr-overview.

When deciding, you will have to decide what you really need and what you can live with the drawback

The Sony Handycam will be much more convenient to use, but a DSLR like a t2i has the potential for much greater quality because of its large sensor and ability to interchange lenses. I suggest you do a lot of research, then a lot of thinking about what your workflow would be like with each camera, and whether working with a DSLR will be worth the hassle for the kind of videos you will make.

I used to be a sony fan until the Panasonic Lumix ZS8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upPDgVUTG3E&NR=1

Takes amazing video and it's crystal clear.

This also depends on what you are filming. If you plan to film concerts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1FeLp84Pz8&feature=relmfu Panasonic Lumix ZS8 is the way to go.

I have 6 diff sony's and none are this amazing - imho. Wish I had knows this 6 sony cameras ago.

I use a Nikon D3100 DSLR. It shoots great pictures and decent 1080P video. I personally use a Samsung handheld cam for video though. It really depends on what you are looking for and how much money you have to spend. Handheld cams shoot terrible pictures so it doesn't really double all that well as a digital camera, on the other hand some DSLRs shoot pretty decent videos. Look at some test shoots on YouTube for the D3100. Its Nikon's entry level DSLR.

I would probably lean towards the Canon if you are stuck on those two. Look at test videos on YouTube shot with both of those and compare.

A DSLR was designed for photos and a camcorder was designed for taking HD video. Although they can both do photo and video a DSLR's video will never be as good as a camcorders and vice versa with photos. I would always choose a product that was specifically designed for a sole purpose and use it for that purpose only if I want the best results.

Its like using ice skates to run, you can do it but its always better to wear running shoes.

Camcorders also have a much greater zoom, a flip out LCD screen (which the Canon does not),headphone and mic inputs. Some camcorder even have 3CMOS sensors for an even greater picture.
