dsl modem issues

I happen to have a westell wirespeed 7500 modem/router/wireless modem. When I build any computer and go to test it to see if it will work or is hooked up right and it turns on the modem gets kicked offline and all computers connected loose net. If i even have a computer i built off for a few minutes and then turn it back on it does the same thing. I have reset the modem several times and the problem is still there. I wonder if there is a modem i could find that would work with frontier dsl thats not a westell or a gateway style modem that could be hooked up to an external router

I don't know if this would count as a solution, but I have a 2Wire Gateway 2701HG-B That showed the exact same symptoms. For a brief time I had the unit plugged in to the same power strip as my main system, and for that length of time, there were no issues when turning my system on and off. recently though I had to move my system to another strip, and the symptoms immediately returned. you might try to test your systems using the same strip as the modem, and see if that fixes your issue. the only thing I can figure is that the turning on and off of a system can send a small pulse back through the Ethernet cable, and if the modem (Which in my case is hooked to a strip on a different outlet.)is sensitive enough, it could be enough to disrupt the DSL signal.In my case though the signal almost immediately comes back and the total time is about 30 seconds before the link is restored. Apparently having the system and modem on the same strip, minimizes the effects enough to where no disruption occurs. It's not the best idea but it might be worth a shot.

this happens no matter where the computer is in the condo it does it. i even thought to move the modem from the wall plug to a power serge strip and the same thing. the net will go out till i reset the modem totally otherwise there wont be any net at all.
