I would like to know, what is the relationship between a megapixel and video resolution, and how many megapixels are needed to shoot 720p or 1080p video.

Thanks -Eric

a 1080p image produces a 1920x1080 pixel resolution, the closest is a 3 megapixel camera, though is a 4:3 image while a tv is 16:9

a 720p image 1280x720 is about a 1 megapixel camera, though is a 4:3 image while a tv is 16:9

And the resolution is different when using a camera and recording video, due to the senor when recording video. You should look for a camera that says it records HD video to know they have a HD video sensor

Well, if you were recording with a 1920 by 1080 camcorder the amount of pixels in the video would be 2,073,600.
