My old charger did this after I had it for six months. After procrastinating like hell, I bought a new one little over a month ago and it seemed to fix the problem. Now it's back to saying it's on battery power.

It's plugged in all the way on both ends. The light comes on, and it actually does charge when it's plugged in. It's just that the software doesn't KNOW it's charging. It's an HP 61 laptop running Windows 7 if that helps.

I believe the problem is your running windows 7(vista with lipstick but still vista). Maybe try a system update if one is available. Also you should check your taskbar configuration's settings for that particular icon, if it says "always show", change it to "hide when inactive". NOTE: Selections may be different than described for your operating system, I use XP.

I have heard of certain batteries having problems with Windows though this is the first case with a Win 7 computer I've seen (most of the time whenever I see a question like this its XP but thats not important). Check for updates. My old XP laptop had the same problem then I updated the video card driver and it fixed it... It doesnt make any sense but check for all updates.

If that doesnt fix it you can just right click the battery, then click "Turn System Icons on and off" then set the "power" entry to off

I'm running a pirated version of Windows cus I accidentally deleted the partition that had my original installation of Windows on it while I was trying out Linux Mint. Can I still get updates through Microsoft?

Your problem is that you are running an illegal copy of Windows. If you had a legal copy you could get updates and fix it.

You could backup your files and install the most recent iso available then re-upload your files. That should function as an update.

You are advising something illegal.
