I don't mean to sound rude here, but I just don't understand the point. If you have or have had or are having a baby, what was your motivation to make that decision?

How could you not want to bring a new lease of life into the world? I haven't had a baby but in a few time there's no doubt in my mind that I'll want to have one. To me its what life is all about, bringing new life into the world. Something so precious that will grow up to become your best friend and that you'll spend years together having fun.

A decent reason. I didn't mean to cause offence as I get the impression I have... I'm just curious as to what peoples reasons are. Thanks :P

As a woman who recently just gave birth to our 2nd child (our 1st son), it's a number of factors. 1) I LOVE my man (creating a family is what I want with him), 2) Keep the family name going, and 3) I like to know there's responsible parents (I hope I'm one of them) out there that are raising some intelligent, responsible and decent human beings (rather than the muck we have nowadays) living on this Earth.

An interesting question. I'm sure that a lot of people would do it as something to share with their partner but I'd say that some of the motivation would be tradition, it's what's expected of you.

I guess I'm lucky here. When my older brother came out of the closet everyone except my dad stopped asking me about my love life. I do feel like my grandmother and grandfather would be happy to have a great grandson-or-daughter though...

It's genetic. We are not purely logical beings. Like every other organism out there we are naturally programed to pass on our seed and spread our species. There's not grand answer to your question, it's just simple genetics.

Hehe, this reminds me of a church sign... "Staying in bed shouting 'Oh, God!' does not constitute going to church."

When I was younger I was totally repulsed at the thought of having children.

However, as I grow older the urge to have children has only grown and grown.

Its programmed into our DNA - its auto-pilot, designed to propagate our species. Our DNA is wired in a way that as we mature we think about sex more and more, till we eventually find a mate and have children, grow a family and eventually die.

Then our children will do the same, and so on.

Life.

Oh, I'd think it was the whole "continuation of the species" thing Darwin was talking about.

I haven't had kids, but I'm glad my parents decided to.

I know there are people out there with better reasons, but sad to say, more than enough of the people I know seem to have babies only because they feel like they have failed at every other aspect of their lives and want to show they can at least succeed at human biology. I don't doubt that other (hopefully most!) parents have stronger, more fulfilling reasons for having children, but my own very anecdotal and limited evidence suggests that it's a desperate attempt at fulfillment that isn't coming.

Because they had ****, and it is in our nature to take care of a living being and help it get it's place in our society.

Lol! If as I believe, you were trying to disguise the word "sex" with those 4 asterisks then you should take into consideration that "sex" is 3 characters long(not 4) and that "sex" is a medical term and needs no concealment.

http://www.vhemt.org/biobreed.htm.

This website will give you some info. We instinctively want to breed because for some bizarre reason we want our species to go on(?)...doesn't make sense to me..I will be dead. Those who care about leaving an intelligent being on earth for earth's sake..think of the carbon footprint they will also bring with them etc.to dare no one has ever given any logical well thought reason to have babies..always something stupid like-I was bored, married life was getting boring,I wanted a mini me, because that's what you do etc etc...stupid.
