Ophcrack won't work on Windows 7?

I forgot my Windows 7 password, which also happens to be the password I use for one of my email accounts, so am trying to reobtain it.

Ophcrack found nothing, does anyone know of any other tools or methods?

Did you run the LiveCD Ophcrack? You'll want the Vista LiveCD.

Have you tried http://www.piotrbania.com/all/kon-boot/. I believe it sets a code into the ram and make windows accept any password.

I have used Kon-Boot successfully get through any password issues at work for XP, Vista, and Windows 7 for getting into PCs designated for refurbishing and redeployment.
You can use it to reset passwords, or create new admin accounts - or both.

This is may be the raintable do not support windows 7. You can try chntpw. Chntpw is free software too, and it is easy to use. Visit this page: Recover Windows 7 password with chntpw USB disk for more information, or visit http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/

First try that what @Kevin suggested, and then go to CMD and type "net user administrator /active:yes" that will enable hidden admin account in windows 7, and then restart pc or just log off, then login to administrator account and delete password for your account. and voila, you log out, log in back to your xxx acc and set your pass again. Then it's time to disable admin acc again and you can do it by typing "net user administrator /active:no"

*note: when you are enabling and disabling admin acc make sure that you run Command prompt with admin privileges.

You might try rebuilding from the recovery disks and see if that puts the password back the way you set it. If that seems like too much of a hassle, you might want to try the tool here http://www.ilikemall.com/guide/reset-windows-7-password.html

try it and tell me how it goes.

seems this thread is over 1 year old, it he didn't use the same password for his e-mail and stuff with other personal info, I would have said sent the SAM and System file to me and I will run it through my 200GB rainbow table :)

Cant seem to find the download page anymore, seems they got rid of it but a while back hak5 has a whole rainbow table page on their site before moving the the new design and it had a wide range of tables from LM hashes, to NTLM, to other hashes such as MD5, I grabbed their NTLM tables (could not get the rest as their 100% set was nearly 1TB (for if you wanted to crack full character space passwords)

1TB? o.O Bloody hell, I can't imagine how long that would have taken to crack, I'll have to have a look for them, see if I can find something to download once I buy my new 3TB Hard drive
