My 18 inch Dell 1800FP was too small for my use, so I recently got a Samsung 21.5 inch monitor. I love it's fantastic resolution, but I've noticed that there are rapidly refreshing lines across the monitor. They're not rapidly refreshing pixels, it's something else. Does anybody know what this is? Is it normal for an LED monitor? Thanks!

Do you use VGA or DVI?

VGA. It's connected to a laptop.

No, you shouldn't be seeing that. Check the refresh rate in your video card settings.

LCD monitors should be rock-solid with no perceptible refresh.

My parent's 21.5" gateway monitor does this too. It's LCD. Maybe it is the analog connector to the computer???

Sometimes if you're using a VGA analog connection to your graphics card, you may see ghosting and other strange effects on your screen. If your monitor supports DVI or HDMI, I would suggest using either of those connections to your graphics card or motherboard to correct that problem.

Good luck!

It's a laptop. VGA only.

I'm about to head to Best Buy and Costco to return a cable and buy a condenser microphone. While I'm out, do you think I should exchange the monitor for a new one?

It wouldn't hurt.

I have this problem too when using VGA, but only with my oldest laptop. The VGA port on the laptop looks pretty beat up and rusty, I guess that's why. Might be the same case for the OP.

I had the monitor replaced, but that didn't help. I'm still having the lines. I think it is the VGA port on the laptop/graphics card. I'm going to try to get an HDMI to DVI-D Dual-Link cable.
