iPhone 4 and a Glif mount, costing around 179 USD in total with a 3 year contract.

That's what I use for my YouTube channel and website.

In the UK you have to pay at least £150 for the phone itself and then something stupid like £35 p/m for the phone on contract - this is not a cost effective option.

Well you're not going to get a full blown camcorder for that price so I presume you mean a pocket camcorder. I recommend you look at the Kodak Zi 8, I've used one several times and it records brilliant videos. It records in both 720p and 1080p, however it's slightly over your budget on Amazon but I'm sure you could find it cheaper somewhere else.

If you can stretch your budget it will be well worth it for this pocket camcorder.

I think you're going to struggle to get a "good" camcorder for that price. In all seriousness I'd recommend you do a little more saving first.

I always live by the motto "you buy cheap you buy twice". Don't skimp on poor hardware, best to save and buy some you know is good!

Go for the new Flip Video HD. Get the HD one if it's not over your budget (£112.99 on Amazon UK) as it has a higher recording resolution than the minis. Great kit, easy to use and has a tripod mount on the base. The only downside to the device is the poor zooming abilities.

Flip is DEAD. There's no reason to buy one, especially if something goes wrong.

I wouldn't go with flip because the line is discontinued, so your not getting any updates or support.

I've seen the Canon PowerShot A3200 and under for around £100.... Take a look at Canon's A series cameras. They're the cheap line and can do 720p.
