Elation Emulation is the most reliable and still rather easy to use lighting software I've used. Howdie, I work over here and we use lighting desks but most mainstream lighting companies offer some form of DMX management. You would first need a USB to DMX converter. There are a few open source projects out there.
Here is a Commerical Application that doesn't just control the DMX but also the audio and AV. Show Cue System
