HI! I have a Asus M2A-VM Motherboard with a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+. What newer CPUs can I buy to replace this CPU? Preferably a Quad Core. |

A simple Google search can do wonders. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2AVM/#specifications |

I remember that processor fondly. That was a good one. Luckily enough for you, AMD makes an effort to be backwards-compatible with older boards. Flash your BIOS to the latest version and check your compatibility, and, if your motherboard supports it, you might even be able to use the hexacore lineup. Remember, AM2+-socket processors can go into an AM2 board. Same goes for AM3. AM2 processors can go into AM2+ boards. However, AM2/AM2+ processors CANNOT go into AM3 motherboards. I'd advise you to get an AM3 processor so that you can upgrade to an AM3 board later on. |
