Problems with minecraft on ubuntu

I have recently purchased minecraft and I was excited to play it on ubuntu, however, it only works when the proprietary drivers for my graphics card are unactivated, otherwise it crashes before it gets to the main menu.

Anybody have a resolution to this mayhem?
