I was thinking of Dual-Booting my IBM ThinkCenter with Linux and it's current XP install. It's specs. are 3 GHz P4 HT 2 GB RAM. So my problem is which distro will work best? Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora or something else?

Make Linux Drivers! it's possible, with a small free app. All you need is the windows drivers, and the app will then re-tweak the distro to use the Windows Driver, or the "tweaked" Windows driver :)

D-LINK DWA-130 I think is the model. And it's possible to make linux drivers?!?

I have a D-Link adapter that wouldn't work out of the box with ubuntu, but if you hookit up with ethrenet, It will download it from the driver manager

The question has been closed for the following reason "I went with Ubuntu and Wubi and the Wi-Fi Card Worked" by ryebread761 Jul 09 '11 at 12:02

Ubuntu because you can install it right inside windows so it is easier to uninstall if you don't like it.
Just use wubi, available here: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/windows-installer

I tried installing fedora and it messed up partitioning so my comp wouldn't boot.

Hi I have used Mint on a lot of machines and can honestly say that I would recommend it to anyone. Stay away from Ubuntu you will run it to a countless number of networking problems well for my experiences any ways hope this helps

I had to plug in my laptop to Ethernet to install the driver for wi-fi. But they legally have to not include it and there is a additional driver installer built right in.

All of the distros you listed there will work but i suggest ubuntu since it is compatible with most hardware and plays nice with nearly all linux software.

also since you already have xp in there a good way to try it would be to install it via wubi so you dont have to play around with disk partitions and nasty things like that.

thanks

matt

I would suggest an Ubuntu based distribution to begin with. I personally use Xubuntu, not because I have a low powered computer, but I do love XFCE.

I have used Ubuntu for a while. I would say with your specs, you will be able to run Ubuntu like a dream.
