I Would use DownloadHelper. Currently Only Available for Mozilla Firefox. But There are Lots of Software that You Can Download with, like DamnVid(http://damnvid.com/) or KeepVid(keepvid.com) for Online Downloads.

I use "Youtube Downloader"

It's fairly lightweight, easy to use and includes a file format converter. I don't download many youtube videos but it seems to do the job just fine.
