i just saw a commercial for a 3d smartphone (the name escapes me) and was thinking "man i hope 3d isn't going to be used for everything!" i personally don't like 3d even without the glasses. does anyone else feel the same?

3D is not really catching my attention right know. I don't see any use in it. I do agree putting it on smartphone is to much.

3d is a gimmick and nothing else. they throw the picture / video slightly out of phase and call it 3d.

It's like they are trying to turn 3D stuff into some sort of a fad or something... When I genuinely have no desire for 3D multimedia....

Like if you're going to go watch a 3D movie... It's like $5 more expensive to watch the 3D movie now... And you don't even get the old blue/green glasses that were always fun anymore... you get these clear glasses that GUARANTEED give you a MAJOR headache if you keep them on throughout at least half of the movie.

Furthermore, I know Nintendo has that new DS platform that you don't need glasses for the 3D effects... But I just don't feel that we are advanced enough that we can make the 3D effects be... oh what's the word? I don't feel that we can make the 3D effects ?worthwhile? to put it into a video game.

I pray that Apple doesn't try to make some sort of 3D effects in any of the iOS devices, because I am currently loyal to them all, and I wouldn't want to put up with it... But I genuinely don't see them doing it...

I remember during the commercials for the SuperBowl ?2years ago? there was like 3D commercials and they were handing out glasses via mail.... But I still would have rather just done without.

I prefer 2D over 3D too. Talking about movies, I prefer a high resolution over depth. So blu-ray over 3D. And what use has 3D on a smartphone? I'm holding it against my ear!

3D is just a choice for the people who are well endowed with money.

For the lesser people like me, choosing a normal screen over 3D is like choosing fast food over a 5 star restaurant.

Everything's becoming 3d now for some reason. This is why, i'm putting off buying the N3DS. I'm afraid I better wait a year before buying anything 3D so I don't end up buying something that ends up being a total failure of an attempt to force new technology into our households.

Right now 80% of the 3d tv's is owned by gamers, playing games in 3d is the only great feature so far. My friend actually drives better laps in grand turismo because he can estimate the corners better.

The phone you are talking about is the HTC Evo 3d I think. You can switch 3d off, and I recommend you do this. It started hurting my eyes after half an hour to be honest. The nintendo 3ds is a bit better, but you have to sit right in front. Anyway, I see 3d going further than it is right now, but mainly in gaming, since measuring debt and bringing a more realistic experience has been one of the major goals the last 5 years.

(sidenote) 3d movies have been around since the 1950s but never really took off, thats why I don't really see it happening now.

I'm sure that even though it is capable of doing 3D that it will still allow you to switch the 3D feature off. The 3Ds can do it and every 3D blue ray I have seen comes with an option to play the movie in normal non 3D mode. I think that 3D will only become bigger if they manage to perfect the technology by making it cheaper, hasstle free (no glasses with decent quality) and make it not strain the eyes which is what I see most people complaining about.
