Why does having an interest in computers and programming make my friends call me a nerd?

Sure, I love computers and accesories and saving up for nerdy gear. Sure, I like programming and other nerdy stuff, but why does that make me a weirdo in society? what's so "nerdy" about it? I don't understand. I play high school basketball, I like girls, I drink Monster, I'm a normal person!!!
