Previous Gen iPod Touch users, did you buy an external mic?

i got one of the external mics. I got it for its full retail price from apple and it works amazingly but what is annoying not long after i got a second hand iPhone 3G and it didn't come with the head set but the mic works with all the other apps it doesn't seem to want to be used in calls and the volume controls don't work with the iPod app but other then that it records a good sound :D
