has anyone successfully broadcast an hd (high definition) live video stream over the Internet? I am trying to do so with a camera that can do up to 1080p (also has settings for 1080i and 720p). but i can't do it on ustream. i even bought the full Ustream Producer Pro but that doesn't work for me at all. currently the only way for me to broadcast video is to us the web version of ustream. and i don't think this will do high def as far as i can tell. any comments or suggestions? its a camcorder connected to computer via an HDMI cable into a capture card that accepts HDMI as input. I am able to stream video fine at VGA quality via this same camcorder but I want to do higher quality than that. |

Hardware and software aside You'd need some serious internet. I'm talking server grade internet. A company that my friend works at just added some servers and they also updated their internet connection. It's running something like 45 mb/s down and 85 mb/s up. I know that they could've gotten 1 gb/s upload but they chose not to for financial reasons. According to comcast, my upload should be around 3 Mbps. According to http://blog.radvision.com/videooverenterprise/2008/06/24/high-definition-is-next-do-you-know-how-much-bandwidth-you-have/ Still, for a good quality (or, God forbid, superb quality) 720p resolution, 30 frames per second (fps) video conference scene (known as “talking head”) compressed with H.264 you probably need at least 1.5-2 Mbps (that is Megabits per second). This means that an HD endpoint that sends a 720p resolution video stream would require a guaranteed 1.5-2Mbps bandwidth. Well I didnt say you'd need it all LOL. That'd be a lot of internet for a home user... hmmm I know what I'm gonna upgrade my service to. Now where did I bury all that money. |
