Hey everyone, I have an issue that's really been bothering me lately. See, I do almost all my Internet browsing on my iPad 2. Heck, I'm on it right now. But I absolutely HATE YouTube's mobile website. I have Chris Pirillo-style rants about it. But I love the Cosmic Panda, or even the feather layouts. I understand that cosmic panda is probably asking too much, but…well, here's the question. Is there any way to do a "reverse redirect" on the YouTube mobile site? What I'd like to do is instead of having YouTube redirect to their mobile site, I'd like to stay on the desktop version. To combat the flash issue with the iPad, I'd join the HTML5 trial, since that should work. And then I'd use the feather trial for faster loading, even over 3G. I guessing that if this is AT ALL possible, I'd have to change a hosts file somewheres in the filesystem. And yes, my iPad is jail broken and I can edit system files (through the terminal is my favourite :) ). Thank you for any help!!! Even if there is no answer, thank you in advance for all the "no this can't be done" answers!!! Nathan |

Instead of typing youtube.com in your address bar, type youtube.com/?nomobile=1 That works for me. But that is weird because I'm assuming you've had to go to the bottom of the mobile page and click "Desktop". When you do that, it should default you to the desktop site. It did for me. After typing in the new URL, try going to youtube with the first URL, and if it still redirects you, then try going in and clearing your history, cookies, and cache and trying it again. If it STILL redirects you, then go to youtube using the new URL, and bookmark it. Then just use that to get to youtube. 1
Yeah, I've had to do that lots. And if I do that, clear my cache and stuff, when I search or actually go to watch a video it'll still default to mobile Edit: Seemed to work this time. Thanks! No problemo :) |

I never tried this on a tablet, but you might also like the XL interface. It's meant to be used on TV's and media center pc's. |
