I need one because my brother and nephews download laggy games and bloatware along with viruses. I have tried the K9 blocker and it doesn't respond most of the time. The software can be freeware or not, at this point i don't care because, even though I'm a geek i hate when people change my pc settings and install stuff. I end up with malware and viruses even BSOD. I use chrome, firefox and,IE9. |

The Hosts file is the best website blocker if you run an OS that has one. I don't know what OS('s) you run so i'll give you this as a reference for now. If you find that your OS has a Hosts file, then, search "editing hosts file in [your OS]" on Youtube for a tutorial if available. yes but i want to block multiple categories For the purpose of blocking malicious websites, I recommend the "WOT" browser extension and the "SiteAdvisor" browser extension. Also you can find lists of IP addresses to block in your Hosts file by category by searching "[category] IP filter list" in your search engine. wot has a habit of giving warnings when there is nothing on the site to worry about. I know it does but at it's easy to see when that's the case, you can just click the link to the rating & comments page and after you see something like "they're a bunch of liberals", you know it's safe. Plus, your better safe then sorry. |

Yes, edit the host file as mentioned in previous comment. |

I just use my router's built-in blocking. It confuses the heck out of people, because instead of an "ACCESS DENIED" page, it just refuses to connect to the site. |

If you use Google Chrome, Stayfocusd would probably be perfect then you can just hide other browsers deep in the start menu and you'll be good to go. |

If you're using FF or Chrome you can use Leech Block that way you can set times and the sites you want to block ... I also think it works in IE. |
