Why do some companies or organizations use the .net and .org on their web address instead of the simple .com like many other web sites? What makes it more worth using? |
The main difference is that .com is supposed to be used by "commercial" entities. (thus the .com) .net is supposed to be used by local networks hosting their own sites on their own servers. .org is supposed to be used by various organizations with the emphasis on non-profit organizations and foundations. .edu is only supposed to be used by educational organizations like universities, etc. .gov is reserved for government agencies. And the list goes on. That's the way it originally planned for. Nowadays, it has become quite lax due to the increasingly "hard to get" domains that people want to use. |
What makes .com any simpler than .net or .org? They're all three letter endings. |
Really it makes no difference, some sites just want to represent themselves better. They're all gTLDs (generic top-level domains) so anyone can register them for whatever they want. |
.COM is normally the highest priced domain type. |
