I'm not talking about computer fans. I'm talking about fans in general. I just finished cleaning my fan a few hours ago, and I am REALLY glad I did. So, do you clean your fans? If so how?

cleaning the fans and re-oiling them from time to time is a must. will save you money in the long run.

I clean my computer fans, but not too often. I can hear so well that I know when my PC is running louder than usual, in which case I will open up the case, remove the fan/heatsink from the case and clean them thoroughly.

you completely misread the question, if you even read it at all. I'm talking about HOUSEHOLD fans. But, well it works :)

I clean my house fans often, a bit of a clean freak so it is something I keep up on.

Yeah I should be more of a clean freak, but fans that are dusty gross me out.

We clean the fans in my house of course. I am asthmatic and the dust that those things accumulates are harmful to me, even if I wasn't asthmatic they would be clean because the dust is not only harmful for people w/ Asthma but for everybody and it's unhealthy and can create future respiratory problems.

I really don't use fans that often. I recently replaced my 3 air conditioning units for my house, and they pretty much eliminate the need of a fan. I do regularly change the filters on those though, and of course I clean my computer fans.

I use a safety pin open and bent to the side a little like a hook to get the big chunks of dust then I go over it again with string like floss. ( you have to stick the string in the fan then typically use to safety pin to pull the string out another opening. Very time consuming but best method I have found so far. If you clean them often enough a sweeper typically works but most of the time the dust build up is too much and the sweeper doesn't have enough suction.
