When Sol rises the light has to do through more of the atmosphere to get to your eyes. And it filters out some of the colors of the light so it appearers more red.

True Ryan...but it also has to do with the pollution in the atmosphere but with the rules you described. The sun's light has to penetrate denser amounts of atmosphere during rise/sunset.
