If you disconnect your laptop from your internet, then no you will not be able to access it on another computer. But, your internet can be down, and even though it's down, you will still be able to access the laptop with your other computer. The internet uses the WAN (Worldwide Area Network), while your computers would use LAN (Local Area Network) to connect to each other.

But why? If I share files between my two computers, will the files be uploaded to the internet? Or will they stay ''down on earth'' between my PC'S without using data over my internet connection?

They'll stay on Earth haha. That's an interesting way to think about it. The files DO NOT leave your house.

Your router acts as a "middle man" and allows multiple devices to "talk" to each other, think of your hub as a postman, it will receive something from a computer and direct it to another on your network, the internet is not needed as all of the devices are connected to that same router

Exactly...

I'm pretty sure it doesn't use internet access, but merely connects the devices together via the Home network.

The problem is that, if i disconnect the laptop from internet, I can't access it anymore from my desktop, so it's using internet to connect both devices?

You're most likely disconnecting it from the home network. If you disconnect your laptop from the wireless access point, then you're also disconnecting it from your home network (assuming the only thing your laptop is connected to is your wireless router)

No, Because it just connects your computer to other LOCAL [I.E. Devices that are in local proximity to each other] computers & other devices.
