I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 laptop, and i think it "might" be overheating. how can you tell if it is overheating? Thanks :D |

Best thing you wanna do is if it gets hot, Turn it off and give it AT LEAST 2 hours to cool down in a cool place. Make sure it is cold, but not anything like, freezer cold, just not in any way warm. Compaqs are pretty shit laptops for their prices by the way. I got an HP one after my Compaq fried itself. This has no problems, cost less and has over double the ram, CPU and around about twice as much hard drive space. |

Fans will run extra loud and you can feel a warm spot on the plastic near the CPU. Run CoreTemp and you can see what temperatures your CPU is running at. If it gets too hot the computer will just shut off. Before it does that though it will start to run really slow |

I have a CQ62 Presario and the fan seems to run on 100% capacity all the time no matter what I'm doing, it sounds like a mini jet engine. I just now updated the BIOS and adjusted the power plan settings.. Fan is still running like hell and the CPU is running hotter than it should be for the system load. My last option before replacing the fan heatsink or the computer all together (this computer is $300 new) is to take the back off and see if I can clean some dust out of there.. Hopefully that does something. |
