Car driving with emergency brake on.

I drove off my driveway and up the hill about 100 feet until I realized that I still had my emergency brake on. I was wondering if anything bad could happen to my car. I know that I could Google it, but I did and most results were for people who drive a lot more than me before realizing they still had it on. I know this isn't tech related either but I just want to make sure my car is fine. Thanks!

This happens sometimes don't worry. Basically you wasted more fuel and also you may want to check if the emergency brakes are worn.

The ironic part was that I was actually driving to my emissions test haha. Ok thanks!

And I just got the car yesterday and the dealer said that they gave me new brakes. So I expect that they are fine.

Why do americans call it the emergency brake? You dont use it in an emergency at all! (but thats another argument :)

The only bad thing that may have happened is you will have worn your brake pads a little, but over 110 feet, it will be negligible.

The emergency brake can be used as a standard brake if the standard brake fails. When I was taught, in emergency situations, you can use it to slow down till you are in a safe situations.

0	Driving 100 foot with your (we call it a handbrake) on will hardly wear down the brake pads. Its like, stopping up somewhere about 10 times using it, It hardly does any damage, though it consumes fuel like a bastard though answered Aug 02 '11 at 17:02 PolishJamaican 86●4●4●7
