Is there an iPad app that show s a slideshow of then most popular news from the most popular news sites?

I don't know of any in particular, but try the Bing app. Its a really good app. Check out Chris' video for it too here

About 2+ minutes in, Chris shows the News section of the Bing app. That's the best that I know of for what you're asking for.
