My Windows 7 Ultimate x64 does not go into sleep mode. When i press the sleep "button" from the Start meny , my monitors turn off and while normally , the computer would stop working , now after a few seconds my monitors turn back on and display the log-in screen. Any ideas how it could work again and go into sleep mode ?

Here is a list of things you can do to try and top it from doing that http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63567-power-options-sleep-mode-problems.html

Some good suggestions so far, but my question is why would you want your desktop PC to go into sleep mode? Sleep mode, if I recall correctly, was made for laptops so that users could easily suspend what they were doing, close the lid and pack up then quickly come out of sleep mode (no waiting for a full boot) when they wanted to use their laptops again at a different location. With desktops being stationary and not moved around, there's not really a need to power down to "pack up and go." Why not just turn off your monitor and leave the PC running? Extra electricity use is negligible as well.

i had the same issue, and found that it was windows media player, it had things scheduled to record off my TV card.
it can also be caused by your graphics drivers hanging, or something locking the system to prevent it from going into sleep mode, this can be something your logged into or it could be something that you use to schedule a task like a virus/spyware scanner.
