I have a laptop that gets really hot when we play WoW on it, like in excess of 200F. I was wondering is there a way to force a processor or GPU to not run as well as possible, maybe to run WoW as if the computer was a slightly crappier computer? I am theorizing maybe the machine would be cooler.

If you are running Vista, go into the power options and go into the advanced settings for your currently selected power plan. There's an option for processor throttling. My machine overheats completely if I run it at 100% and it reboots or freezes.

Check the setting in the game and change the graphics to low. Other then that you can do the following:
You can take out the battery if know your power won't go out. This cools it off quite well if it's the battery causing the heat. 2.You can get a cooling mat from your local store, or put a box fan under your laptop.
Clean your fans. Dust can cause the fan to actually slow down causing more heat...and even more problems.
Change you Windows theme. For example I'm running window 7 switch to classic mode. Right click on computer properties -> Advance System Settings -> Advanced -> settings -> Adjust to best performance
If those don't work...your fan might be starting to burn out.
