How do you feel about it? When someone calls you or someone else a "geek" or "nerd? Most likely they are one of those strange people who sees it as an insult. However, being a geek or a nerd is EXTREMELY positive! Being a geek means that you have a strong passion towards something, and you strive to learn as much as you can about it. Being a nerd means that you have a deep love for something, and you know a LOT about it already. Now depending on what you may be a geek or nerd about can determine it's positiveness or negativity. If you are a computer geek, that's a great thing to be. You know a lot about computers, and you want to know more about computers. But on the contrary if you are a geek towards say the Telly-Tubbies, well this would mean you have a big passion for them and you want to know as much about them as possible. If you happen to be a telly-tubby geek, then either you need to consider watching another channel or you have an amazing ability to be able to read and answer these questions at the age of two. I do apologize to any telly-tubby geeks out there, even though you really should find something else to geek over. Anyway, basically if you are wondering about me personally, when someone calls me or a friend a geek, I know that they are generally trying to be insulting. Because of this I do feel insulted, but usually right after that I smile and say "Why thank you :)", and they stare at me with a blank face. Same thing is with being called a nerd. So, what about you? |

If i'm called a geek with a negative intention, then I usually feel pissed about it but otherwise, I feel it's just a title. I don't believe that everyone has negative intentions when using the word 'geek'. It can be used in a positive way, such as when my friend explains my tech knowledge to one of his friends by saying something like "...he's smart when it comes to computers, he's a geek...". |

Personally, I take it as a compliment. If they are trying to say it in a hurtful way, then it is still a compliment, because basically it means that I know a lot about a subject, and I will be able to find a good job, and be successful in life, whereas the person stating that in a derogatory term, will likely become a horrible, failing person, with no friends. Just my opinion. |

When someone calls me a nerd, I respond with "I'm not a nerd, I'm a geek!" So, I guess that answers the question. |
