Hey guys,

I am interested in buying a camera, for mainly video but photos as well. A friend suggested a DSLR but i am open to other options.

I have a rough budget of £1000 (about $1625) but can spend a bit more if necessary. My current choice is a Canon 600D but I imagine their are other suggestions so would like to hear them.

Thanks for any advice/help you can give! Dom

Would you want it to be more portable or something bulky such as a DSLR

This camera is great it takes some great photos. http://store.sony.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666290110

I would pick the Canon 60D over the 600D, but if I were you I would wait until August 24. Apparently Sony is coming out with a new DSLR called the A77 and it is rumored to have some awesome video features. They are speculating that it will deal much better with things that most other DSLRs aren't so great with (rolling shutter, moire, aliasing, etc.) But we'll have to wait and see.

I have a Nikon D7000 and it is a great camera for photography and video. Your question is a little vague but that's my recommendation.

If you want a STARTING camera, there's no reason to get a DSLR. If you didn't mind 2 separate cameras, you could get a good camcorder and a high end point and shoot if you wanted. If not, Nikon D7000, that Canon camera, or something from Panasonic. Panasonic is really good for video.
