Wordpress is a CMS (Content Management System) for blogs. You write posts and/or create pages where you just write in text, just like in a text writer (somewhat similar to MS Word), there are also a ton of plugins for Wordpress, Spam checks, Newsletters and mobile versions are just a few, and it's super easy to install them :)

I am currently using it over here for my own blogging as well. What you can use is MS live writer as an example if your using windows environment and post it directly to your blog. Or use third party software to do that as well if your running under different operating system like Linux or Mac. You can also categorize your blogs into different titles so that you can keep certain blogs under one title and another set under another and still have them viewable.

Wordpress is a blogging system. I've used it a lot in the past because it's soo easy to use for people (who may know less about computers than you) to post and edit the theme. There are a lot of templates and it's quite easy if not to make your own, or edit the ones which have a copyright licence that allows you to. There's also a lot of add ons, widgets, whatever you want to call them, that can be useful.
