I think it is very unfortunate what has happened off the Gulf of Mexico and after seeing the devastating effects it has caused, I have signed up to volunteer with Audubon in my local area.

Have you?

It has definitely made me consider volunteering, but I haven't worked out the logistics since I am the primary caregiver of our 3-year-old daughter while my husband's at work every day, and we live about 2.5 to 3 hours from our nearest shoreline here in Texas. We will have oil washing up on our beaches very soon, including Padre Island National Seashore where endangered Kemp's Ridley sea turtles nest so it is a very real concern to folks here, as well as all across the Central and Eastern U.S. coast...and everywhere else the ocean's currents are going to take that mess.

It's definitely a real tragedy what's going on and I hope I can do my part locally here in Washington state. I am from NC and maybe I can do some volunteer work there once I can schedule time off to spend time with family and friends.

I can only imagine how much your hands are full with a busy 3-year-old running around.

No, being a decent human inspired me to start volunteering. Years ago.

Very good comment, although I think she was specifically asking about volunteering to help in oil spill cleanup... I've certainly volunteered time on many occasions prior to this.

I understand. I began volunteering with my local 4-H club as a kid through my teenage years. However, I haven't done much since then. I look forward to helping others in the future. :)
