So I was watching a movie and I guess it seems lame on my tv's speakers. I would like a system with a nice woofer. I also need one with HDMI inputs and outputs. Since I use a PS3 as a Blu-ray player. But anything under 200 would probably do. So what do you recommend?

Do you want 2.1, 5.1, or 6.1?

7.1 at the local movie theatre was awesome! if you could get that in your house, it would be amazing!

Settled for an RCA system. Its actually a good system for an 80$ System. It will do until I get oh, I'd say 250-300 to spend on a more powerful one. Besides, based on the movie I just watched and MW2, these will suit my needs for now.

I, short of budget myself went for an Edifier M1385

I positioned it so that the base (subwoofer / one the makes the loud bass) is under my table [and sometimes under my bed :P coz its best anywhere on the floor) and my 2 satelite speakers (the Left and Right Stereo would face one of my ear. that creates a "surround effect" and you can notice the sound of a movie move from L to Right vv.)

that's for a 2.1 speaker ('coz its all i can afford)

2 = stands for the number of stereo speakers .1 = stands for the subwoofer (if there is)

so 7.1 would mean 7 speakers around you and a single subwoofer down the floor

and the speaker should depend on the size of your computer room (just like Aircon!!) the more open your space is = less bouncing of sound = requires higher volume = more expensive piece of device.

M1385 can cover for the music of a regular sized hotel room. but it's not really the best, i'm saying it's worth your every dime. :))

(there may be some devices w/c are cheaper but they usually have short life/ not offer good quality of sound)

in my opinion at least.

the above Yamaha LOOKS great. [i googled it and since it's 5.1 channel it has a speaker for your front back left ryt, a base etc. (i'm not familliar how to set-up and arrange a 5.1 / 7.1 unless i have it. :P) i mean if you have enough budget maybe you should go for that one. mine is good enough tho. :)) this will do until the time I can afford the "real-thing" (i mean my dream set) hahahha

and HDMI I/O?? not so familiar. the input of this M1385 is like the input of any other regular headphone (3.5mm audio jack). it seems you will be needing an adapter for any device that has a different input.

I love this system, it is a great quality, and an even better price: Yamaha NS-SP1800BL 5.1-Channel Home Theater Speaker Package.
