My PC Speakers...(Logitech) every once in a while will get interference?

They just make this loud buzzing noise. like ZZZZZZZZZZ. It seems to happen based on time. Like it mostly happens at night. I haven't had the issue EVER for the 3 years of owning the speakers, until the last couple weeks.

Please help! What is this? What can I Do?

Do you have any device near your speakers?

I get this with my Z5500 speakers, mine is to do with poor electric wiring in the house.

when something is turned on or off that takes a lot of power i get a buzz or my sub emits a loud 'doof' sound.

it doesnt have to be something in the same room, it can be anywhere in the house, and it can range from a Blender being turned on to a thermostat comeing on on my fish tanks.

but a Buzzing can be because a wire is loose, check your cables and make sure there all connected, and nothing loose touching the computer case or bare metal, as this can also have the same effect. if you have a lot of bundled up cables and your near a microwave, this can cause interference, so can mobile/cell phones (which usually emit a lot when ringing and less when talking).

Well cell phones tend to make it go "but da dup da dup". That's normal. But this is an odd ZZZZZZ. Hmm. I wonder what it could be.. Well my room where these speakers are, are right behind the electrical meter on the house. Could that mean anything?

i think that would have minimal effect unless there is some kind of bad wiring. or maybe when there is a higher load or faulty electrical applance being used might cause it, i'd suspect an old compressor on a fridge coming on and causing the issue, but it's quite hard to find out what could be causing it, once you do it becomes so obvious, just think about what could be in your house that either comes on on it's own or that someone might be using at night, it's probably going to be the cause.

If it only happens for a few seconds then it's most likely that it's cell phone interference with your speakers causing the problem. With any speakers I've always experienced them making a short buzzing noise whenever receiving something as a SMS/MMS.

No it happens for hours, at certain times ONLY. I am familiar with the Cell phone interference sound. This is different!

Sorry can't help you on this one! I've never had this kind of trouble with speakers before, weird that it's only doing it at certain times... it'd be easier to troubleshoot if it was buzzing constantly instead of every once in a while.

You should check the Audio connections/twirl the plugs.

From my (quite limited) knowledge of audio (I'm more of a video person), it sounds like you have a grounding issue. You could try using a ground lift, or you could use a power "cleaner" (I'm not sure what it's exactly called, but I've seen it on a few UPSs).

Here's the kind of ground lift I'm talking about: http://www.lightsonretail.com/Merchant/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=GROUND-LIFT&Category_Code=Adapters-tricks

I'm particular with Audio. and the guy above is Right.

  1. make sure you do not crowd the sockets.
  2. have a good grounding.
  3. and MOST IMPORTANT: check the Audio Jack itself (the 3.5mm audio Input) cause if there's still a problem even if there are no twists and bends, then try playing a sound and bending it a little. this is the problem mostly occurs. after a few months if left untreated, it gets worse and then what you'll hear is like a Minus one music whenever you try to play it. so the solution? is to replace the Audio wire (I was lucky it's still covered by a warranty)
  4. if it's really that worse, you should consult an electronic technician they can check that. :))

I have had this problem on one of my laptops. The problem was with the power connection. If you have a laptop, you can test this by unplugging the power cable, and running on battery to see if the noise stays the same. I believe that the wireless antenna might have had something to do with it too, so try turning that off and on. I'm not really sure how to fix the problem if any of these 2 are causing it, but it would help you identify the problem.

Wifi, possibly?

(Aug 22 '11 at 23:49) worldtechguru worldtechguru's gravatar image

nope, mine is a laptop too.. its not just the wifi, but the whole motherboard might be grounded so unplug every USB, and if your battery permits, restart via manual shutdown and manual power on while unplugged from the charger and withOUT any headphone usb whatsoever connected. connect these devices later after windows has fully started. that is my fix as far as a grounded mother board is concerned..

Have you checked your smart meter for your electrical company? I think that is my issue. It broadcasts information at certain days and time. It will cause interference, that's what it is.

have you tried switching on the speakers when the computer is off to see if you can hear the same?

it's not logitech, they dont have such things in there speakers to decode radio waves or to access the internet to play online music. what you have is something on your computer that has that internet radio channel as a feed. nothing to do with the speakers at all.

right click on the speaker icon and select 'mixer' mute each one, one at a time and you should find out what is doing it.
