I was on Xbox Live Last night, and one of my clan buddies started talking about viruses and malware. So, another member insisted than Malwarebytes was the be-all and end-all of free computer security. And that got me thinking what does Malwarebytes actually do? is it just for malware or does it also handle spyware and viruses too? Also how does it compare to other free computer virus programs e.g.(Microsoft Security Essentials and AVG).

Malwarebytes is a scan and destroy virus and malware tool, although it does not give real time protection for free. It also updates very frequently and has a lot of virus info in its databases.

Malware bytes scans and removes and harmful malware, but not just that also RATs. RATs stands for Remote Administrative Tool which can be EXTREMELY bad for you and your computer, what this can do is if your infected they can look at your webcams, listen through microphone, watch your computer screen, steal files, info, passwords, send viruses, etc. The main part is IDENTITY THEFT. Anything else would include damaging self replicated virus like activity, things that hide in processes, Malwarebytes is highly recommended.

I use malwarebytes along with microsoft security essentials and I have yet to have any problems. I recommend that combo to anyone and everyone. Well, pc users anyway. Mac users are on their own. :-)

I've found that you can eliminate most spyware/malware problems between Malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/), Ad-Aware Free (http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php) and Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html). I've yet to find one solution that takes care of everything.
