Hey guys, here's the deal: I have a computer that used to have windows 7 and ubuntu installed on it at the same time. I used gparted to delete both partitions so that I would have a clean hard drive(since I have windows XP on a disk ready to install). The problem is that every time I start up my computer, it says "error: no such partition. grub rescue>" It does that even if I have the installation disk in the CD drive. What does this message mean, and how do I fix the problem? |

Make sure your BIOS boots up the CD/DVD drive before the hard drive. It should be in that order. |

Grub is just the bootloader that Ubuntu uses. It shouldn't matter with the installation disk though, that's handled through the BIOS. Have you made sure that CD/DVD is set to boot before the HDD? Or can you hit a key eg. F12 and select a device to boot from and then select your boot disk? |

Ensure that your computer is setup to boot from Cd/DVD APTI ROM drive, then it will boot from the Windows cd/dvd. |
