Now I know most of you will point me to the Wikipedia page, but I've already been there and it all sounds very complicated. All I want to know, in simple words, is what is NFC and how does it work? Also, I'm going to buy a new phone soon and was wondering if I should be looking out for this in it?

Read this off the wiki.
Sums it up and what it does.
"Emerging NFC standards allow customers to quickly purchase products and transfer secure information by touching devices. NFC allows companies to reduce staffing, printing, and point of sale costs. Globally, 100 million people use mobile payment outside the U.S., but only 3.5 million use the technology in the U.S"
Uses the same technology as BlueTooth.
