A quick google search provided this. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-windows_update/microsoft-net-framework-35-service-pack-1-and-net/58a4ce2c-d03a-4dd1-b5ba-98fbb3868585

There's a link on that page to download .NET framework 3.5 service pack 1. So download & install it that way rather than via Windows Update.

I've experienced times with .NET Framework updates where they fail with Windows Update. and updating it manually has worked for me (granted I've not done so on 7 because this computer is from 2007 and came with Vista)

I had same problem. You can fix it by going on windows update page and manually download update and install it. Worked for me it should for you to.
