I was testing the speed of my computer's internet speed on speedtest dot net, and it shows about 5 down 5 up. I tested it on my iPad and iPhone, and they show the normal speed of about 20 down 7 up. I checked my wireless adapter, which is a netgear, and it seems to be working fine. I tried TCP program to boost my speed, and it didn't work. What could be the problem?

How old is your computer? Do you know if your router support 802.11 B,G, or N? all three etc., more than likely, your Computer doesn't support type N connection mean you have to use a slower protocol. Buy an ether net cord plug it in and see what you get.

Exactly what Fizz said.

In addition to what Fizz said, you'd get MUCH faster speed if you used a cable connection to the modem via ethernet.

My router is a Wireless N netgear router, I have a wireless N adapter, which is capable of 300MBs but the driver software is terrible, and had to find a different adapter driver, and it worked. The old driver didn't let me watch youtube without it crashing. The new driver worked for a while.

300MBs doesn't reflect actual performance... depending on the brand and how old it is you might want to go into the device's properties and see if it has a media/gaming setting and enabling that.

What are the specs on your computer? You could be seeing a bottleneck somewhere.

I found the problem, my USB drivers were corrupt, so they were only letting 1.1mbps speeds going through! Norton found the problem. (even though Norton is a resource hog)

That was going to be my suggestion there. Maybe reinstalling the drivers or updating them at least from the manufacturer of your wireless dongle your using. :-) I have seen and heard problems in general and not specific to a particular brand of wireless. Sometimes that will cause the problems. I had one last week with the same thing. She was getting a proper IP address from the router itself. But couldn't do a thing with it. Not even print to her wireless printer either.
