Hello! I was wondering if it is safe to plug in my notebook to the wall without having the battery in the notebook. Would there be any cons to doing this? Thank you!

It's safe. And will preserve your battery. Why not?

Yes. You can constantly keep the charger plugged in. Just be sure to keep the battery unplugged. With my laptop, I like to keep the battery unplugged and power it off the mains. However, just be careful not to unplug the charger by mistake

It depends on the laptop. Some are/were designed to not operate without the battery in place. In other words, you could plug it in, but without the battery it will not power up.

All of my laptops work perfectly without a battery. This is good practice if you use it as a desktop computer a lot, as it will not put wear on the battery. The only major pro, is that if you have a short power outage, your computer won't shut off. Other than that, I like saving the battery for when I need it.

Yes, you can run your laptop plugged in with no battery, no harm. In fact, if you run your laptop plugged in more often then not, it is advised you pull the charged battery out so you don't destroy the battery, that is the leading reason for batteries that are dead/bad/lasting 30 minutes or less.

so do you claim that there's no risk of frying / grounding the laptop in case of power surge? or whatever?

have you tried it on an hpcompaq 511?

Unless I'm out of the house or in the kitchen I always run it without the battery (unless its charging). It is actually bad for the battery if you keep the laptop and the battery plugged in when the battery is fully charged, and can result in a battery that lasts less than half an hour. It is recommended that you use surge protection though.
