There are many more viruses for Windows but almost every computer not only comes with anti-virus software (even though it is not a good one like nod 32 or security Essentials) but Windows users know that they need anti-virus software, even the most computer illiterate people.

The problem with Mac is that as they become more popular and the millions of Apple users that are told to use their products as their first computers, they do not know the risks of viruses. This is why virus makers are beginning to go towards Mac users. Unless Apple can update their hidden virus scanner on macs and be able to stay up to date with security attacks as Microsoft has, Apple computers will become the worst place to get viruses very soon.

...

Just use Linux.

97467 viruses for windows... Atleast the number that is developed.

a mac can get viruses, but it is very low.

linux can get them too but it is rare.. most likely lower than macs

most viruses are developed for windows, as it is a large community, so you have a much higher chance of giving them viruses than a mac. Which is why windows has more viruses than a mac, though they still exist for other operating systems, it is just slightly harder to get them. And it doesn't mean you shouldn't have a antivirus, just have one installed anyway just incase you encounter one.

Ok, why is it no matter how many times this is brought up it is ALWAYS ignored? The reason that Linux has no viruses is not because no one uses it comparably to Windows. The fact of the matter is that in the server world, not to mention the world's most powerful computers as well as the most security minded (think federal reserve) USE LINUX. What does that mean? Well, it means that Windows actually IS NOT the most widely used OS. Linux is. Now, the REAL reason that there is no viruses for Linux is the open source base of it. One could make a virus for it, but because it is open source, the virus would be patched and killed in a few hours. And if it were used more than it is, it would be minutes. THAT is the reason that there are no viruses. Hope everyone enjoyed their education.

Okay, for those of you who;re having problem with Virus, you probably have A PIRATED WINDOWS OS! because windows have solved that problem way way back since 2008!!! they introduced microsoft security essentials and yes, it has killed and has always killed virus of all forms. and how much does this cost? FREE. and Compatible with other antivirus software if you prefer.

Virus for windows are for Pirated Windows OS, period.

This does not answer my question. Yes, Pirating is bad. No I don't have a pirated copy. I am asking HOW MANY VIRUSES are known for the listed os-es!
