i have a movie, and i wanna play it at a friends in their dvd player. what format do i need to make it?? on mac os x |

Creating a DVD is not easy as dragging and dropping video files in the parent directory of the DVD, if you look into the parent directory of a DVD you'll see two folders named "VIDEO _ TS" and "AUDIO_TS", in those folders there are some .BUP and .VOB files containing the video chapters and localized audio tracks, (you can open them with players like VLC Player) on older DVD players only this standard setup is supported, while newer players, computers and game consoles (except Wii) can also read MPEG and DivX video files (DivX are usually supported with an external plugin on consoles) |

DVD players will recognize video in the mpeg-2 format. The video has to be encoded onto the disk as a video DVD, not a data DVD. To do this, you need a DVD-video authoring application such as iDVD or Roxio Toast. Another alternative is ffmpegX. Details on how to encode and burn the movie can be found here. Also, this will not work if the original video file is DRM protected. Attempting to burn it to a disk would be copyright infringement. |

On Mac OS X, your best bet is to use iDVD to burn a disc that is playable in a DVD player. If the movie isn't readable by iDVD, you can try a program like Toast instead, or try converting the movie to a format that iDVD can read (like mp4 or mov). Hope this helps! |
