So I notice that an intel i3 has a built in graphics core. So its supposed to handle games to some extent. But does it erase the need for a graphics card? And also, if I have both would they work together at processing that?

It will not remove the need. The intergrated GPUs on all CPUs are useless for modern gaming. You need a dedicated card. And no, with the i3 they can not work together.
